Pre and Post Treatment

Guidelines for Laser Tattoo Removal

Below is a List of Important Information for new and returning laser tattoo removal clients.

Before your treatment:

  • If you will be receiving laser treatment on your face or neck, please do not wear makeup on the day of your appointment.

  • Avoid skin products that contain retinols, peels, vitamin C serums, or other substances that increase your skin’s sensitivity for at least 4 days prior to your treatment.

  • No sun-tanning or self-tanners 4 weeks prior to treatment

Sun exposure increases your skin's sensitivity, putting you at higher risk of complications after your laser treatment. Sun tanning, tanning beds, and artificial skin cream tanning will decrease the efficacy of the laser in targeting the pigment of your tattoo. Please ensure you are wearing a high SPF sunscreen or covering your tattoo with clothing to avoid sun exposure for at least two weeks prior to and after your appointment(s).

  • Some medications or supplements may increase the risk of bruising. Consult with your physician.

  • Avoid modalities that may irritate the skin for 1-2 weeks prior to treatment (waxing, depilatories, etc.)

  • Notify Golden Ghost Studio of any changes to your health history or medications since your last appointment.

  • Excess hair may need to be shaved.

  • History of a histamine flare response may necessitate antihistamine dosage prior to treatment.

  • History of herpes or cold sores may require an anti-viral prescription prior to treatment.

  • Please wear loose clothing (preferably natural material) on the day of your laser treatment appointment.

After your treatment:

  • Avoid sun exposure for 2 to 4 weeks following treatment and use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen.

  • Cold compresses or chilled gel packs may be applied post-treatment.

  • Avoid skin irritants (products containing tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents, etc.) until the skin is fully healed and all crusting has resolved.

  • Bruising, redness, petechiae, blisters, and swelling may occur and resolve with time.

  • Avoid heat – hot tubs, saunas, etc. for 1-2 days

  • Multiple treatments are likely required.

  • Consult with Golden Ghost Studio about when to resume your skincare routine after receiving laser treatment.
